Privacy Policy

Highlit (“the App”) is developed by Tomoi. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles. Highlit is designed to keep your reading data on your device. We only collect limited technical and usage information through analytics and crash/error reporting services to help us understand how the App is used and improve its reliability.

1. Limited Analytics and Error Reporting

Highlit does not require an account and does not upload your books, highlights, notes, or imported files to our servers. However, the App uses a small amount of analytics and crash/error reporting to help us understand app usage and fix problems.

These services may receive limited technical or usage information associated with app activity. We do not use them to collect or analyze the content of your books, highlights, notes, or imported files.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All content you create or import into Highlit — including books, highlights, notes, and app settings — is stored locally on your own device, using local storage. This reading content is not uploaded to our servers or sent to PostHog or Sentry.

3. Files You Import

When you import highlights from a Kindle (My Clippings.txt) or Kobo (KoboReader.sqlite) file, the App reads that file directly on your device to extract highlight data. The imported file and the reading content extracted from it are not uploaded to our servers or shared with PostHog or Sentry.

4. Data Deletion

Your books, highlights, notes, and other reading content remain under your control on your device. Deleting content in the App removes it from local storage. Uninstalling the App removes the data stored locally by the App. Limited analytics or error-reporting data may remain with the respective service according to its own retention practices.

5. Children’s Privacy

Highlit does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not require an account or intentionally collect information such as names, email addresses, contacts, or location.

6. Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy changes — for example, if we add a new feature or change how information is handled — we will update this document and the “Last updated” date above. We aim to keep the policy clear about what information the App does and does not handle.
